Nutrient absorption enhancers for reduced feed cost

We constantly have to adapt formulations to manage feed cost as the price of raw materials continues to rise. Often feed additives are one of the first things to be excluded when we are trying to find cost savings in diet formulations. This is, however, not the most economical option.

The benefit of nutrient absorption enhancers

There is extensive research to demonstrate the benefit of nutrient absorption enhancers in traditional broiler diets with moderate to high levels of added fat. The enhanced digestion and absorption of nutrients has been widely shown to allow substantial diet reformulation and offer significant feed cost savings. However, increasingly we are seeing the use of diets with little, or no added oil are becoming more common, so what is the benefit of nutrient absorption enhancers in diets without added fat?

Recent scientific study

LYSOFORTE® EXTEND combines lysolecithins, monoglycerides and a synthetic emulsifier in a carefully balanced ratio, that allows the product to offer substantially more benefit than lysolecithin alone. Rather than simply increasing emulsification, it enhances the digestibility of multiple nutrients, including key amino acids, energy and fat, in addition to other benefits such as improved intestinal morphology, better litter quality and increased uniformity.

A recent broiler study was designed to investigate the effects of LYSOFORTE EXTEND in diets with no added fat. When compared to a non-treated control, the study was able to demonstrate that the use resulted in:

  • Significantly increased body weight gain at all time points
  • Significantly improved feed conversion efficiency from day seven onwards
  • Substantial economic benefits including additional profit

This study demonstrates that the benefits of LYSOFORTE EXTEND go far beyond emulsification, proving its complete mode of action in optimizing nutrient digestion and absorption providing a viable solution for sustainable, profitable livestock production.
