This salmon-based liquid palatant demonstrated superior palatability performance when compared to both an animal-based super-premium liquid dog palatant and an animal-based super-premium liquid cat palatant.

Popularity of Fish Ingredients in Pet Food

Fish ingredients are increasing in popularity in pet food due to popularity of fish flavors and protein ingredients, growth in monoprotein diets and pressure on the traditional pet food  ingredient supply chain. In the last three years, among all pet food product launches in the EMEA region, salmon represented the first fish protein choice, with annual growth rate (CAGR) of 72%in dog and 16% in cat. Salmon is the third-most-popular protein in terms of number of pet food product launches, after only chicken and beef.¹

Conventional diets often include fish as a primary ingredient or a key flavor, but fish-only diets are more likely to be categorized as monoprotein diets. Monoprotein diets are often used as a part of an elimination diet strategy, as they provide a clean label and can help pets with digestive issues or adverse food reactions. Pet parents are choosing monoprotein diets more often. In the last three years, monoprotein dry dog food diets have an average CAGR of 73%.¹
